Bill C-9: Policing thoughts and words rather than actual crime

LGB Alliance Canada stands fundamentally against Bill C-9, however there is a legitimacy crisis around who can speak on matters in the political process. While lesbians, gays, and bisexuals must speak independently from the legacy charities and LGBTQIA+ alphabet, the confusion and division in Canada is second to none. The eroding freedom of expression is a factor making it harder to criticize bad policy. It risks capturing a majority of speech in the public interest for debate and protest, not just individual expression. 

Sterilizing children in the name of “gay rights”, definitely hurts gay rights. Calling gay people ‘hateful’ for pointing it out, is actually one of the most homophobic trends to emerge since we won our modern rights. Our policy brief was published by the Parliamentary Standing Committee On Justice and Human Rights on November 18 2025. What’s most important is that we make a clear record of our community’s call to reject Bill C-9, and clarify the danger of this policy direction.
